Training Camp Diary: Ka’deem Carey

It was huge to be here for a couple months last season. Just the experience with the team, the bonding, the building and being a part of a championship team was a lot for me. It just helped me come out here and be a big leader. Not be scared to step up and be a leader with Don [Jackson] back there. So to take control of the running back room and to know what I’m doing, it gave me a head start to come out here.

Just knowing the playbook definitely helps. When I showed up last year you just jumped into a whole bunch of plays and stuff, so it’s good to go back and see the roots to understand why I’m running things so I can get open more. Just understanding the offence, you play faster.

I feel excellent right now. The main thing for me going into training camp was getting the plays down. Once you get the plays down, you can be yourself, play fast, and that’s what I’m focusing on right now so I can go into the pre-season game and let this light shine.

I bring a lot of energy to the field, a lot of noise and pad hitting. I’m aggressive when hitting the holes and I make big plays. That’s what I want to do for this team – big plays.

Because of my success in college and even in the NFL, I trust in my talent that wherever I step onto the field I can make things happen. That’s just how it is, I was raised like that. Playing football is a gift, it’s a joy that I love, so I would never take a snap or a down off.

I’m really excited for Friday’s pre-season game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. It’s going on about two years since I’ve played in a game because of my injury, but I’m excited to go out there and show the world what I’ve got .
