Stamps Add Four Players To Roster

The Calgary Stampeders have signed national defensive back Malcolm Thompson and three American players – quarterback Marcus McMaryion, offensive lineman Jordan Morgan and defensive lineman Mbi Tanyi.

Malcolm Thompson

Thompson was a three-time Ontario University Athletics all-star at Wilfrid Laurier, earning first-team honours in 2016 and a second-team nod in both 2015 and 2019. He was also a first-team all-Canadian in 2016. In 31 career games for the Golden Hawks, he recorded 120.5 total tackles, nine interceptions, two sacks, eight knockdowns, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. He also returned nine punts for 56 yards and one kickoff for 27 yards. Thompson added 11 tackles and one interception in two career playoff games.

Marcus McMaryion

McMaryion is a former Fresno State star who attended rookie mini-camps with the National Football League’s Oakland Raiders and New Orleans Saints in 2019. He made 25 starts in 28 games over two seasons (2017-18) at Fresno State and completed 511 of 778 pass attempts with 39 touchdowns and added 596 yards on 128 rush attempts with 12 touchdowns. As a senior in 2018, McMaryion was voted a team captain and was an All-Mountain West honourable mention. Prior to his time at Fresno State, McMaryion made seven starts in 15 appearances during two seasons at Oregon State. As a member of the Beavers, he completed 128 of 237 pass attempts with 11 touchdowns. He added 45 carries for 93 yards and two touchdowns along the ground.

Jordan Morgan

Morgan signed with the Stamps on Sept. 30 and spent four weeks with the team during the expanded practice roster period. He was selected by the Chicago Bears in the fifth round (147th overall) of the 2017 National Football League draft and has also been with the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets.

Collegiately, Morgan started in all 43 games over four seasons at Kutztown. In his senior season, he helped Kutztown set a single-game record with 459 rushing yards and was the first Golden Bear in school history to receive the Gene Upshaw Award as the top lineman in Division II. Also in 2016, Morgan became the first player in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference history to be named PSAC East Offensive Athlete of the Year. He was named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East first all-star team for three straight seasons from 2014-16.

Mbi Tanyi

Tanyi signed with the Stamps on Sept. 30 and spent four weeks with the team during the expanded practice roster period. He attended 2019 rookie mini-camps with the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers. Tanyi played 39 games over four seasons at the University of Maryland and registered 69 tackles including four tackles for loss, two sacks and one knockdown. Tanyi started all 12 games as a senior in 2018.
