Stampeders Sign Pair Of Linebackers

The Calgary Stampeders have signed American linebackers Darnell Sankey and Darrell Williams.

Sankey signed with the National Football League’s Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2016 and he appeared in six games for the Indianapolis Colts in 2017. He has also spent time with the Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints.

Collegiately, Sankey played at Sacramento State and earned all-Big Sky Conference honours as a senior after amassing 153 tackles including nine tackles for loss in 11 games. He added 3.5 sacks and one forced fumble. Over the course of his career with the Hornets, Sankey recorded 330 tackles including 27.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one interception that he returned for a touchdown.

Williams signed with the NFL’s Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and attended Washington’s training camp. He spent time on the Redskins’ practice squad before being released.

Prior to turning pro, Williams played four seasons at Auburn. During his senior year, he was tied for second on the Tigers with 74 total tackles and he also recorded seven tackles for loss, one sack, one fumble recovery and one interception. For his career, Williams had 183 tackles including 14 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
