FEED IT FORWARD: Mace’s Annual Turkey Drive

Almost 300 turkeys and hams were collected during Corey Mace's 2016 Christmas turkey drive.

Calgary Stampeders defensive line coach Corey Mace is set to lead his eighth annual Turkey Drive for the benefit of families in need.

The program began in 2013 when Mace was playing for the Red and White and has continued ever since. This year’s event – which runs from Dec. 9 to Dec. 19 – has been modified because of the logistical challenges created by the ongoing pandemic.

“It’s unfortunate we won’t be able to meet people in person to accept donations and deliver the turkeys to the food banks and other charitable groups as we have in the past but I’m very grateful that we’ve found a way to keep the initiative going,” said Mace.

Fans interested in making a cash donation can do so at the Airdrie Food Bank’s Corey Mace Turkey Drive page. The Stampeders Foundation will match every donation dollar for dollar up to a total of $5,000.

Starting on Dec. 9, a virtual auction for prizes including sports memorabilia, gift cards and a chance to have a meal with Mace will get underway. Details will be available on the Corey Mace Turkey Drive page or through Mace’s Twitter account at @CoreyJMace

“With everything that has been happening this year,” said Mace, “the need is greater than ever. I’m grateful for this community’s amazing generosity and the Stampeders Foundation’s support to help put food on the table and make the holiday season a little brighter.”
