Stampeders Sign O’connor

The Calgary Stampeders have signed free-agent national quarterback Michael O’Connor.

Selected by Toronto in the third round (20th overall) of the 2019 CFL draft, O’Connor dressed for nine games as a rookie during the 2019 season with the Argonauts. He saw his first game action in Weeks 20 and 21 and completed 15 of 25 passes for 173 yards and one touchdown. He also had one carry for one yard.

O’Connor’s first career touchdown pass came in Week 20 against Ottawa as he connected with Rodney Smith on an 11-yard score.

Before turning pro, O’Connor played four seasons at UBC and was the most valuable player in the Thunderbirds’ Vanier Cup victory in 2015. For his university career, he completed 773 of 1,197 pass attempts for 9,990 yards and 61 touchdowns.

O’Connor began his collegiate career at Penn State, where he redshirted during his freshman season.
