Stampeders Preparing For 2021 Cfl Draft

The Calgary Stampeders are scheduled to make six selections – including the eighth overall pick – as the Canadian Football League holds its annual national player draft on Tuesday, May 4.

The draft is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. MDT and the first two hours will be carried on TSN.

This year’s draft differs from recent editions in a number of ways:

  1. The number of rounds has been reduced from eight to six
  2. Instead of being determined by the previous season’s standings and post-season results, the selection order was determined by a random draw held in November. Hamilton won the top overall selection while the Stampeders were awarded the eighth pick
  3. The draft order is reversed in alternating rounds which means Calgary’s original selections are in the eighth spot of the first, third and fifth rounds and in the second spot of even-numbered rounds

As a result of a trade that included an exchange of draft picks, the Stamps own two selections in the fifth round – Toronto’s at 43rd overall and their own at No. 44 – and none in the sixth round.
