Home to the Hammer

Hamilton may be a long way from Calgary, but one Stampeder will feel right at home this weekend.

For wide receiver Tyson Middlemost – who hails from Dundas, Ont., located just minutes outside of the city – Friday’s road tilt against the Tiger-Cats marks an exciting homecoming.

“I’m definitely looking forward to going back,” said Middlemost. “Hopefully I get to see my family in the stands. We have a good group going: my mom, dad, aunt, uncle , sister and girlfriend, too.

“Hopefully we put on a good show for them.”

Middlemost is no stranger to Tim Hortons Field. He’s hit the turf there twice already, once in high school and a second time when he played for the McMaster Marauders.

“It’ll be good to be back,” he explained. “In high school I played an exhibition game there, I played a university game there and I’ve always wanted to play there as a professional.”

Things have truly come full circle.

“I think it’s pretty cool that I get to play against my hometown team in front of my friends and my family,” he said. “I think it’ll be fun, it should be good.”

The rookie receiver has seen action in five games this season after being selected in the fourth round (34th-overall) of the 2020 CFL Draft, putting in work so far on the Red & White’s special teams squad.

“It’s been a really cool experience so far,” Middlemost said. “I’ve learned a lot, it’s been really interesting. Just being around a lot of guys from different areas with different styles, it’s been great learning new techniques.

“I think my season has gone okay so far, (but) I think I can keep getting better each week.”

The 2-4 Stamps are coming off of a convincing 32-16 victory over the Edmonton Elks last weekend heading into Friday’s game. Keeping that momentum rolling into this weekend is key according to Middlemost.

“I hope we just come out playing hard and don’t hold up the whole game,” he said. “I might be a little bit biased, but doing well on special teams and holding them will be really important for us and just doing our job on offence – coming out and executing,

“I think if we just play Calgary football it should go well for us.”
