The Stampeders were 2-0 during pre-season play a year ago including a 37-7 victory over the Elks at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium. Calgary went on to post a 12-6 regular-season record, good for a third-place finish in the West Division. The Elks were 4-14 in 2022 and occupied last place in the West standings.

The pre-season contest features the return of a number of Stamps players from the past including defensive lineman James Vaughters, who is back in uniform for the Red and White after a stint in the National Football League, and longtime franchise standouts Nik Lewis and Juwan Simpson, who are new additions to Dave Dickenson’s coaching staff.

The fun on Monday starts before kickoff with a musical performance by Danny Nix and the Heat. The local band will also perform at halftime.

There will also be a pre-game DJ and fans will get a chance to win prizes throughout the contest.

CTrain closures

Stampeders fans commuting to McMahon Stadium for Monday’s game are advised that as a result of maintenance work by Calgary Transit, portions of the Red Line (7th Avenue downtown stations as well as Victoria Park/Stampede, Erlton/Stampede, Sunnyside and 39th Avenue stations) and the Blue Line (7th Avenue downtown stations as well as Westbrook, Sunalta, Shaganappi Point and Bridgeland/Memorial stations) will be closed.

Calgary Transit will instead be offering express shuttle bus service to bring fans to and from the stadium.

Customers normally taking the Blue Line CTrain from the northeast can catch the shuttle bus at Bridgeland/Memorial Station, with express service to Banff Trail Station near McMahon Stadium.

Customers who would travel northbound on the Red Line CTrain can catch the shuttle bus at Chinook Station, with express service to Banff Trail.

The shuttles to McMahon begin at 12:30 p.m. with the last run at 1:30 p.m. Return shuttles begin at 3:30 p.m. and run until 6 p.m.
