Letters From Camp with Jon Gott

#63 Jon Gott, OL – June 9

Training camp has been going great!

They’ve changed it up a little — I know I’m having a lot of fun out here and every day I just try and come out with excitement and do what I can to get these young guys going.  It’s crazy to think, not that long ago I was considered a younger guy at camp.

I’m really excited about this season. Last year was a great learning experience for me and I just want to build on last year’s success.

The one major difference between last year and this year’s training camp — I’m healthy this year, so that’s a big plus. Nothing else has really changed, we’re still doing the same stuff, but it’s a real blessing to be healthy this time around. With the new tidbits we get each day, the o-line and myself just try to improve every chance we get.

Through the years, I’ve tried to learn new tricks to battle the grind of training camp. Constant tweaks and adjustments seem to be making this camp go smoothly. As a group, we are all just really trying to help each other out.  At the moment, the real lifesaver seems to be stretching and long sessions in the cold tub.

Before camp started, I was lucky enough to head back home to Lethbridge for Junior Stamps Camp. It was the real highlight of my summer.  It was real fun to see how much the football community in Southern Alberta has grown. There were a lot of kids down there and everyone seemed to be having a great time. I know I did!

We never had an event like that when I was a kid. Hopefully, this year’s Junior Stamps Camp will create another generation of diehard stamps fans.

Training camp is in full swing and, before we know it, the first pre-season game will be here. And not long after that, the start of the regular season. That means the beard will be front and centre. You can expect yet another season with a Grizzly Adams beard. FEAR THE BEARD.
