Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the signing of five rookie imports — receivers Sederrik Cunningham and Marcus Rucker, offensive lineman Korian Chambers, defensive lineman Brandon Williams and defensive back Jeremy Williams. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

All five players will be reporting to the Stampeders’ rookie camp, which opens at McMahon Stadium on Thursday, May 29.

Cunningham signed with the National Football League’s Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He played four seasons at Furman University and caught a total of 95 passes for 1,196 yards and seven touchdowns. He also saw special-teams duty for the Paladins and averaged 23.5 yards on 66 kickoff returns and scored one touchdown.

Rucker has spent time in the NFL with the Chicago Bears and New York Jets. He played 44 games and made 26 starts in his four-year collegiate career at Memphis. During his time with the Tigers, he managed 126 receptions for 1,665 yards and scored 14 touchdowns. He was a two-time all-Conference USA honourable mention selection.

Chambers played two seasons at the University of New Mexico (2011-12) and started 23 games during his career with the Lobos. During his senior season, Chambers played 12 games at right tackle and one at left tackle as he was part of a line that helped the Lobos rank second in the Mountain West Conference with 300.8 rushing yards per game.

Brandon Williams played four games for the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys in 2010 and was on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice roster in 2011. He played three seasons at Texas Tech (2006-08) before leaving the school early to declare himself eligible for the 2009 NFL draft. In 2008, he led the Big 12 Conference with 13 sacks and was also among the leaders with 15.5 tackles for loss as he earned first-team all-conference honours.

Jeremy Williams played two seasons (2011-12) at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark. He led the Reddies in 2012 with three interceptions and also had 66 total tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He attended rookie camp with the St. Louis Rams in 2013.

In other transaction news, the Stampeders have released non-import fullback Wilkerson DeSouza and non-import receiver Chris Bauman.

DeSouza played three games on special teams for the Stamps in 2013. Bauman played eight games for Calgary in 2012 and made 16 catches for 212 yards and one touchdown. He missed the entire 2013 campaign with wrist and knee injuries.

Also released were import defensive backs Coryell Judie and O’Hara Fluellen, import linebackers Kyle Voss and Keith Pough, import defensive linemen Joe Sykes and Brandon Johnson, import receiver Raymond Radway and non-import linebacker Ryland Smith.
