Calling all future Outriders: Registration for the Little Miss Outrider and Junior Outrider programs has commenced!

Little Miss Outrider is hands-down my absolute favourite event of the entire season. As a tradition, the Calgary Stampeders Outriders host a series of dance workshops for Calgary’s little dancers who have a little extra pep in their step. This program is an amazing introduction into our world as professional cheerleaders and a fun opportunity for the young girls to dance and bond with us and to learn a routine to perform during the Aug. 9 home game!

I remember my mom signing me up for the Little Miss Outrider program as a young girl and I still remember the feeling of excitement and awe stepping out onto that field and performing with the amazing women I saw on the sidelines at every game. Now, being on the other side of the pom-poms, it’s a wonderful opportunity to give back and be a positive influence on the wonderful little fans.

The best part for me is right at the end of the halftime show, and my heart completely melts. After we do the performance with the girls, they say the cheer with us. The girls just yell at the top of their lungs with their biggest cheer voices and shake those pom-poms with all their might! It is truly inspiring to see the amount of energy, excitement and enthusiasm the little girls have.

This is also the second year for our Junior Outrider program! This is something that I wished was in existence before I made the team. This new program is designed for 16-18 year olds with at least five years of dance experience. They get a chance to really be an Outrider for a game! Our Junior Outriders participate in our player tunnel, dance with us on the sidelines for a full quarter of the game and perform one of our very own dances on the field with us during the game.

This program is a great introduction to our world as Outriders and how we perform at every game. I strongly recommend this program to dancers who are considering auditioning to become an Outrider in the next few years as it is a wonderful experience, with some fun tips and tricks to learn.

As a team, we really love meeting and interacting with every Little Miss Outrider and Junior Outrider. The rehearsals and performances are really special, and we truly value the friendships we make with our little fans. Make sure you register early, as space is limited!
