Mark Sutherland charity poker

You have to know when to hold ‘em and that’s exactly what the members of the Calgary Stampeders football club did over the bye week.

Drew Tate, Bo Levi Mitchell, Charleston Hughes, Max Caron, Spencer Wilson and DeVone Claybrooks all moseyed on over to Cowboys Casino Oct. 7 and attempted to show off their best poker face. It was all in the name of charity and community involvement as the guys were taking part in the third annual Mark Sutherland charity poker tourney, with all the money raised being donated to PaceKids.

Pacekids Programs has provided services to Calgary children with special needs and their families for 20 years.

The poker event was filled with high-stakes success, raising $141,000.

It’s not clear exactly who was the most successful Stampeder at the event, vague reports suggest that Drew Tate was the first player to be knocked out, other patrons attending the event are whispering that defensive end Charleston Hughes may have bought back in upwards of three or four times to extend his stay.

What can be confirmed is the Stampeders were happy to donate their time to another fantastic community program and, in the process, handed out plenty of smiles and even more laughs.

The fourth annual event will take place Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015.
