Cindy: Auditions coming soon

Outrider auditions are fast approaching!

If you’ve ever dreamed about wearing those iconic white boots and cheering on the Stampeders from the sidelines — this is your chance! Outrider auditions are just a few short weeks away and we would love to see you there.

For me, auditions are always a mix of excitement and nerves. This will be my third time attending the Outrider auditions and even as a seasoned veteran of the team, I know I’ll be as nervous this time as I was my first year. I can promise you that putting those nerves aside and giving it your all at tryouts has a huge payoff. Being a part of this team has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done!

By now I’m sure you’re asking, “Well that’s great, but what does it really take to become a part of the CFL’s best cheer team?” I’ve got three words for you — personality, dedication and passion (but, of course, dance experience won’t hurt).

Auditions for the 2015 Outriders will be held on Sunday March 1 at 1 p.m., with check-in starting at 12:30 p.m. Apologies to all our curious fans, but these auditions are closed to the public. We will post photos and videos after the team has been selected.

If you’re wondering about the audition process, here is an idea of what my day will look like:

I’ll start my morning with a good breakfast so I have lots of energy to burn. Afterwards, I start getting glammed up so I can impress the judges with my fierce game-day look. Next, I put on my tryout attire which will be a half top and fitted dance shorts. I’ll remember to pack my bag with my dance shoes (or runners), a water bottle and a snack and head down to McMahon Stadium. I’ll arrive at the Red & White Club at 12:30 p.m. to allow myself time to check-in and stretch before all the excitement begins.

Tryouts will begin with everyone doing dance exercises across the floor. These exercises will include kicks, pirouettes, jetes and even some sassy struts. This is when first impressions are made so remember to smile and dance with confidence! Next, it’ll be time to learn a one-minute long dance to perform in small groups for the judges. After the judges evaluate us, the first cut will be made. The dancers who are asked to stay will then have the chance to perform the dance again.

The hardest part is now over for dancers and the judges have some tough decisions to make. If I’m able to show that my skills and personality are the right fit for the 2015 team, I’ll get a call by noon the following day inviting me to training camp.

Training camp is the final step in becoming an Outrider. At training camp, things are run like a normal Outrider practice to allow the coaches to see if each dancer is ready for the season. This year, training camp dates are Wednesday March 4, Sunday March 8 and Wednesday March 11. The final team will then be announced and dreams will come true!

This could be your time to shine! If you want to become an Outrider, register here for auditions right now!
