Smith: Whatever it takes

David Moll

Going into that second half, it was a tough game. We had lots of injured players going down but the defence stuck in there and the offence had a couple good drives at the end. Whatever it takes to win, man. That’s the model.

My name was called when Edwin Harrison and Dan Federkeil went down, and it was definitely a privilege to work with the offensive line. They’re probably one of the hardest-working groups you’ll ever see in Canadian football. I simply got the chance to show a different set of skills.

I was really nervous going in on offence. It’s hard to really know two playbooks, and for Pierre Lavertu and Brad Erdos, I made their job a lot harder. They were telling me what to do every play when we were walking up to the line and I was like, “What do I do? What do I do?” Pierre was speaking broken English and Erdos hasn’t played tackle too much.

It was definitely a big help playing defensive and offensive line during my last year of university at Concordia, so it wasn’t a big shock playing on that side of the ball. It was just a good team win.

It means a lot being awarded the offensive game ball from the team. That’s something I’ll hold very close to my heart forever and I might sleep with the ball for the next couple nights.
