Janke: Tonight was bittersweet

The game tonight was bittersweet. I wish we came out with the ‘W’ but I definitely learned a lot out there. I did some great things, I messed up on a couple assignments, but I guess that’s the growing pains that come with being a rookie out there.

I was pretty nervous at first. But after the first of couple plays, I was just running down the field knowing it’s just football. You just have to go out there and relax and stick to the assignments. After the first couple of minutes, I was fine.

I felt like I was pretty prepared before entering the action. Special teams coordinator Mark Kilam does a great job of keeping our heads in the playbook and making sure we are playing assignment-sound football, so I feel like I was good in that respect. It allowed me to just go out there and do what I do best.

Everyone was very supportive leading up to the game and on the sidelines, as well. My teammates helped a lot with the communication of the play calls right up to the snap of the ball, which is good. That’s a key thing with any professional football team, so it definitely helped.

With my first game now behind me, I plan on just continuing to get better and improving after getting back to Calgary and watching the film from tonight. I’ll take the coaches’ criticisms and move forward to the next opportunity I get.
