McDaniel: We executed the plays

David Moll

Tonight felt good, especially because of how we won. We got down 17-0 and we as an offence said, “Guys, we’ve got to come win this game.”

The defence did a great job of holding them to three points the rest of the second half – besides the two points the offence gave up in the end – but we actually scored some touchdowns. We would have liked to have scored more but we began to show consistency and made plays when we needed to.

We were seeing a lot. I think that is what helped us to execute plays. On the sideline, we talked about what we were seeing and Bo Levi Mitchell was on the same page with everybody. Dave Dickenson was calling the plays and then we did a good job of executing. That was big for us tonight, to execute the plays that were called.

My game is that of a slot receiver, short yardage is what I do. I try to find holes and Bo and I are on the same page when it comes to short plays. Dickenson does a great job of calling the plays that let me work and trusting me to execute. The short game is nothing new to me and it’s becoming pretty easy.

We have had some slow starts. The best way to fix that is to come out being consistent and getting some drives going early. We need to start off that first drive with some points. We just have to come out ready to go. I think once we got down 17-0 we thought “Oh man!” We just have to come out ready to play because teams are gunning for us — we see it every week. We are getting teams’ best and we have to be ready for it.

I think this coming bye week came at a good time – not too late, not too early. We have a lot of guys who are banged up. After that, we have a good 10-12 games before our next bye week. It comes at a good time and now we have a big win going into the bye week so we just have to be prepared to work when we come back.
