Tonnes of turkeys

Hundreds of area residents will be enjoying a hearty Christmas dinner thanks to the generosity of Stamps fans.

A total of 130 turkeys and hams were donated to Corey Mace’s annual Turkey Drive and on Monday the goods were delivered to CUPS and the Airdrie Food Bank.

It’s the third year in a row a turkey and ham collection for those in need has been spearheaded by Mace, the former Stamps player who was recently named the club’s defensive line coach.

“Another successful year in the books,” said Mace. “It’s nice to make memories by delivering a couple of birds to lift a few burdens.”

Mace takes a hands-on approach to the program as he and members of the Stampeders staff loaded the turkeys collected last week and delivered them to the designated charitable organizations.

On Sunday, he appeared at the Co-op location in West Springs to sign autographs, pose for photos and accept donations.
