Cowboys reel in Stamps

The Calgary Stampeders off-season basketball squad dropped its second contest through three games this season, falling to the Crescent Heights Cowboys on Tuesday afternoon as part of the 2016 TELUS Stampeders Basketball Program.

The Crescent Heights High School senior boys’ team downed the Red and White in convincing fashion despite the best efforts of Charleston Hughes, Andrew Buckley, Anthony Parker, Ben D’Aguilar, Bo Levi Mitchell, Rene Paredes, Adam Thibault, Spencer Wilson and Deron Mayo.

More than 300 students filled the gym to see Hughes drain multiple long-range shots in his season debut and watch D’Aguilar bring down multiple hard-fought rebounds. Ralph the Dog made his way through the stands in support of the visitors, but the Cowboys led from beginning to end with a well-balanced scoring attack.

A Stamps team-signed jersey was awarded to the first of two player-of-the-game recipients. The second outstanding performer took home a Fitbit provided by TELUS, and the program’s lead sponsor also supplied four Selfie Sticks to spirited fans.

A trip south to Millarville Community School on Thursday afternoon will mark the fourth of seven games on the Stampeders’ basketball schedule. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. as the Stamps will be looking to even up their record with a win against the Wildcats.
