Training camp continued Thursday with a pair of practices.

Camp was short one regular member as defensive backs coach Kahlil Carter was excused to join his wife for the imminent arrival of their child.

TSP is back

Tim St. Pierre is itching to get on the field for meaningful snaps again after spending almost a full year on the shelf recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in a 2015 pre-season contest.

Entering his ninth CFL season, the Saint Mary’s product is competing with 2016 draft pick Pierre-Luc Caron for long-snapping duties, a position open with the departure of Randy Chevrier.

“I’ve done a few things over my career but I’ve always snapped,” says St. Pierre, who has also played linebacker and running back during his career.

Although he’s competing with Caron for playing time, St. Pierre puts the team ahead of the individual.

“Chev’s probably the best teammate I’ve ever played with,” says St. Pierre. “He’s still a great friend and we always had a great relationship, even though we were both competing.

“P.L., he’s a great snapper, a good kid and we have a good relationship. We’re just trying to get better and make the team better and go from there.”

After a long layoff, St. Pierre is ready for game action.

“That first tackle, when I run downfield, is going to be awesome,” he says. “It’s been since (the 2014) Grey Cup that I’ve played a meaningful game so, probably more than any other year since my rookie year, I’m looking forward to playing a pre-season game.”

Quotable

Receiver Joe West on staying sharp heading into the dog days of camp: “It’s easy when you’re fresh to take in and comprehend a lot of what the coaches are telling you. But when you’re down and tired, you want to focus on the details. That’s what gets you through.”
