About last night . . .

Here’s a closer look at Friday’s Canada Day win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers:

Dave gets on the board

It was a night of firsts for Dave Dickenson.

First regular-season home game as Stampeders head coach.

First regular-season victory as a head coach.

And first post-game celebratory Gatorade shower.

Dickenson is the first Stamps coach since Tom Higgins in 2005 and the sixth overall to collect his first victory at the expense of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Stamps coaches have picked on the Roughriders even more with nine of them over the years getting their first win over the Saskatchewan squad.

Dickenson and Jim Barker (2003) are the only two Calgary head coaches to earn their first wins on Canada Day.

First win as a Stamps coach:

Dave Dickenson (July 1, 2016 — 36-22 over Winnipeg)
John Hufnagel (June 26, 2008 — 28-18 over BC)
Tom Higgins (July 7, 2005 — 21-15 over Winnipeg)
Matt Dunigan (June 20, 2004 — 33-10 over Saskatchewan)
Jim Barker (July 1, 2003 — 32-12 over Ottawa)

Bob Vespaziani (July 10, 1986 — 31-15 over Ottawa)
Bud Riley (Aug. 17, 1985 — 35-32 over BC)
Steve Buratto (June 29, 1984 — 24-17 over Winnipeg)
Ardell Wiegandt (July 15, 1980 — 19-8 over Montreal)
Jack Gotta (July 19, 1977 — 13-11 over Hamilton)
Joe Tiller (Oct. 9, 1976 — 22-10 over Winnipeg)
Bob Baker (Oct. 4, 1975 — 38-12 over BC)
Jim Wood (Oct. 27, 1973 — 14-10 over Edmonton)
Jim Duncan (July 30, 1969 — 32-7 over BC)
Jerry Williams (Aug. 2, 1965 — 37-8 over Saskatchewan)
Bobby Dobbs (Aug. 10, 1961 — 20-10 over Saskatchewan)

Larry Siemering (Aug. 28, 1954 — 34-0 over Saskatchewan)
Bob Snyder (Aug. 29, 1953 — 29-17 over Saskatchewan)
Les Lear (Aug. 25, 1948 — 12-1 over Saskatchewan)
Dean Griffing (Sept, 2, 1946 — 9-0 over Regina)

Bo bounces back

With Friday’s result, the Stamps avoided their first back-to-back losses since Weeks 2 and 3 of the 2012 season.

Since Bo Levi Mitchell became the starting quarterback in 2014 — a span of 33 starts — he’s 6-0 after a losing effort. On three of those occasions, the Stamps scored at least 35 points in the bounce-back game.

Mitchell now has a 29-7 record as a starter during the regular season.

Canadian content

Appropriately, some homegrown products had big days in the Canada Day win over the Bombers.

Start with Jerome Messam’s 137-yard rushing performance including a 53-yard rumble.

Then there was Simon Charbonneau-Campeau’s acrobatic catch and great body control to stay inbounds to score a touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball, Quinn Smith picked up a sack.

A historical Canadian-content moment took place when rookie third-string quarterback Andrew Buckley scored on a one-yard keeper midway through the third quarter.

It was the first Calgary touchdown scored by a Canadian quarterback since Greg Vavra — who, like Buckley, is a Calgary Dinos alum — back in 1984.

Until this season, no Canadian quarterback had scored a touchdown since Giulio Caravatta in 1996. Now it’s happened twice with Montreal’s Brandon Bridge finding the end zone in Week 1 and Buckley scoring six for the Stamps on Friday.

In case you missed it . . .
