Training camp recap: May 31

The fourth day of Stampeders training camp took place at McMahon Stadium on Wednesday with both a morning and afternoon practice.

A heavy dose of Dinos

With Wednesday’s signing of defensive lineman Michael Klassen, the Stamps now have six players on the roster who have suited up for the University of Calgary football program.

In addition to Klassen, who was released by the Montreal Alouettes last week, veterans Andrew Buckley, Dan Federkeil, Anthony Parker and Anthony Woodson each played for the U of C. Adam Laurensse, the Red and White’s seventh-round selection from this year’s draft, rounds out the Stampeders’ current crop of Dinos.

From that list, only Federkeil did not play alongside Klassen at the college level for at least one season.

You have to go back to the 1991 season to find the most recent Stamps team that carried six ex-Dinos on the roster. The all-time record for U of C alums on the Stamps is nine, set in 1989.

Quotable

Head coach Dave Dickenson on his expectations for defensive back Shaquille Richardson: “To me, this is his season to be a starter. We’ve just got to figure out what that position is. I really believe he’s got a great opportunity. He is showing up and he’s a guy we’re all noticing.”

Transactions

The Stamps added national defensive lineman Michael Klassen on Wednesday.
