Levels Blog: Huge play to seal win

I had told my teammates that we needed a play because the game had ebbs and flows.

On that play late in the game, their returner dropped the punt and I was going to hit him at all costs to make an opportunity for someone else and then I hit him and the ball popped out, people shuffled around, and we ended up on top of it and we sealed the win.

When I saw Jamill Smith drop the ball, my mind went into attack mode. When I saw that we got the ball, there was this moment of relief and my body went numb. Everyone came and jumped on me, it felt so good. Alex Singleton came and grabbed me and I was in shock at the time and I realized he was trying to tackle me and my legs just gave out so I fell down. It was a great moment for us.

The atmosphere and McMahon was amazing tonight. The crowd was loud, they helped us out a lot, especially on second and third downs when we needed them. They were quiet for the offence – they did a great job tonight.

We’re a resilient team. We got down early but just like they scored those 14-points quick, we know that we have the capability to put that up and we know that our defence has the possibility to only allow you to get those fourteen points and that might be it. We just kept battling. We knew it was going to be a fight. It was not a question that this was going to be a hard-fought game, but we just had to come out on top one way or another.

We all love to win and we had a chip on our shoulder with everyone doubting us because of the way the season ended. When you know what you have in your locker room, you just stick with them, stick together and you go out and play the game.

I’m speechless about going to the Grey Cup. Being a rookie, you never think you’re going to be on a championship team in your first year, so just to be there is a blessing for me. I’ve been up here in Calgary for a while, so I want to bring something home to show the family what I’ve been doing up here in the CFL.

We’re definitely confident going into the Grey Cup. The feeling in this room tonight, we want to keep that going and we’ll do anything to keep it.
