The Calgary Stampeders will face the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday night with both teams taking to the field for the first time in 2019. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on 770 CHQR radio and TSN.

It’s the first pre-season visit to McMahon by the Roughriders since 2010 and the 27th tune-up contest between the long-time rivals since 1972. The Stamps have won 20 of the 26 season encounters with Saskatchewan over the past 47 years.

Calgary (13-5) and Saskatchewan (12-6) owned the two best records in the CFL in 2018 and this year’s Stamps-Riders rivalry features a family battle as fourth-year Stampeders head coach Dave Dickenson goes up against his brother, first-year Riders bench boss Craig Dickenson.

Calgary’s second and final pre-season game will take place on Friday, June 7 with a trip to Vancouver to take on the BC Lions. The regular season gets underway Saturday, June 15 when the Ottawa RedBlacks come to McMahon for a Grey Cup rematch.

Pre-game at the Gridiron Gardens

The Gridiron Gardens is back for its second season with family-friendly activities such as face-painting, an inflatable football toss and photo booths. Player autographs, a DJ and food and beverage options will be included in the festivities which begin at 5 p.m.

Also located at the Gridiron Gardens on Friday will be the CUPS Kickoff Tailgate Party. Fans are encouraged to support CUPS by bidding in a silent auction and purchasing various donation items. Funds raised from this first-time event will help children and families overcome adversity and go on to build better, brighter lives. A group of Stamps alumni will be available for a meet-and-greet on behalf of CUPS.

New menu at McMahon

Debuting at the McMahon concession stands on Friday for the upcoming season are baby back ribs, half chickens, Mennonite smoked sausage and beef brisket. All options will be served with jalapeno corn bread and coleslaw. Gluten-free nachos with corn salsa and guacamole will be introduced as well as pillow donuts sprinkled with sugar and served with a Nutella sauce. Coors Banquet and Belgium Blue Moon beers will now be on draft and a non-alcoholic brew, Coors Edge, will be available.

Also

The Stamps will be unveiling a new pre-season opening video prior to kickoff and the TUMS World’s Fastest Cow will be released at the first-quarter break. Also, the 2019 Stampeders Outriders presented by New West Trucks will be featured throughout the evening.

Halftime entertainment will be a flag football game with teams from the Calgary Catholic School District.
