Calgary Stampeders linebacker Nate Holley has been voted the Canadian Football League’s Most Outstanding Rookie for the 2019 season. The announcement was made on Thursday evening at Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome as part of the Shaw CFL Awards ceremonies.

Holley is the sixth Stamp to win the rookie award since it was first presented in 1972. The 24-year-old Ottawa Lake, Mich., product joins a group of previous Calgary winners that also includes Harold Hallman (1986), Kelvin Anderson (1996), Nik Lewis (2004), Brett Jones (2013) and DaVaris Daniels (2016).

Holley played primarily on special teams for the first seven games of the season before drawing his first starting assignment. Despite starting just eight of Calgary’s 18 games, Holley ranked third on the club with 78 defensive tackles. He also had one sack, one fumble recovery, one interception and three knockdowns.

With a team-leading 22 special-teams tackles, Holley made a total of 107 defensive plays this season, good for second place among all league players.

In the Western Semi-Final, Holley recorded three defensive tackles and four special-teams tackles.
