‘I Just Want To Win’

James Vaughters has one thing on his mind this week: Win.

The Chicago native, who’s in his second stint with the Red and White, has had a great last couple games racking up three sacks and 11 tackles and has jump started the Stampeders defensive line.

He doesn’t care much about those stats, though, as there is something more important to concentrate on.

“Honestly, I just want to win,” he said. “Individual stats are good but we need a collective effort this week to get the result we want. It’s great but if the end result isn’t what we want it’s not as important.”

The defensive line has steadily improved each week, something the veteran defensive end expects from his group.

“We had good chemistry from the start,” he explained. “We understand that it’s a long season, we’ve got a lot of veterans that understand that so as long as we continue to do what we’ve been doing, the sky’s the limit for us.”

Calgary (1-3) heads into this week’s battle in Regina with the Saskatchewan Roughriders (Saturday at 5 p.m. MTN) in need of a victory against their heated rival to get back in the win column.

“I don’t necessarily think when you’re in a situation where you’re losing games that it’s about confidence all the time,” said Vaughters. “Sometimes I think it’s more about belief or more so just resilience or a relentless approach to the game.

“Confidence is great, you can have all the confidence in the world, but if you’re not relentless it doesn’t actually matter. So we’re looking more so at being more resilient, being able to bounce back in situations of adversity. If you hit your rut early and then hit your stride, everything can really change.”
