Confidence Is Key

Every game is a big one from here on out for the Stampeders.

In saying that, there is no task that is too tough for Branden Dozier and he knows confidence is key if they want to make a push for a playoff spot.

“Confidence is everything,” he said. “If you don’t have confidence in football it’s hard to win or even play the game itself so we’re a very confident group, a confident defence and confident team.

“It’s just about piecing everything together to execute a game plan and win a game.”

It’s been an uphill battle for the Stampeders defensive back group this year as they’ve suffered many injuries and have had to plug guys into spots seemingly every game this year but Dozier says the group is tight knit and no matter where they slot in they are confident they can make the plays they need to win ball games.

“We’re a close group,” he explained. “Whenever somebody enters the lineup it allows us to be seamless so no matter who is up each week we just go out and execute. Being a close group everyone trusts each other and it makes it easier.”

Dozier himself has had to move from safety to SAM linebacker with a season ending injury to Titus Wall but he says because he has experience playing the position before, it has been an easy move.

“It’s been a smooth transition,” he said. “My first year here in Calgary it’s where I started at so it’s like being back at home. Safety has been fun but now I get to be a little more active at the SAM position.”

It’s a huge matchup for the Stampeders who take on the Montreal Alouettes Saturday at 2 p.m. at McMahon stadium – you can purchase tickets to the PinkPower game, presented by Mayfair Diagnostics, here. The 4-9 Stamps are trying to track down the 6-7 Alouettes for a possible crossover spot and need to string together some wins to catch the Saskatchewan Roughriders who sit two games ahead of them for third in the West.

Dozier says the game plan is simple this week as they look for a win.

“Attention to detail is the key,” he said. “ We can’t take penalties and just have to go out and dominate on the field.”
