Stamps Season Comes To An End In WSF

It was a perfect start for the Stampeders but they were unable to cool off a red-hot Vernon Adams Jr. on Saturday night on their way to a 41-30 West Semi-Final Loss.

That ends the season for Calgary while the BC Lions will head to Winnipeg to take on the Blue Bombers in the West Final next weekend.

STAT PACK

Jake Maier – 23-for-34 for 304-yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions

Ka’Deem Carey – 14 carries for 75-yards

Reggie Begelton – Eight receptions for 112-yards, one touchdown

Cameron Judge –  Seven tackles, one sack

It was the fastest start of the season for the Stampeders as Maier found Reggie Begelton for 43-yards on the first offensive play of the game. On the third play, Maier hit Marken Michel for 32-yards into the endzone to make the score 7-0 early.

The Stamps forced a punt on the Lions first drive but Maier threw an interception on Calgary’s following possession leading to a long touchdown drive from BC to even the score 7-7 with just over four-minutes to go in the first-quarter.

Vernon Adams Jr. continued his hot start to the game as he guided the Lions down the field again before running the ball in himself on the last play of the first-quarter to make the score 14-7 after one.

The Stamps got the run game going on their next drive. After a roughing the kicker penalty against the Lions Calgary moved the ball deep into BC territory leading to a 27-yard Rene Paredes field-goal to make the score 14-10.

Adams Jr. once again moved the ball down the field with the short-passing game and rushed the ball into the endzone for the second time in the first-half this time from four-yards out to make the score 21-10.

The Stamps got the game back to one-score as they moved into Lions territory again leading to another Paredes field-goal, this time for 34-yards out. The score was 21-13.

The BC offence couldn’t be stopped in the first-half as once again they moved the ball through the air leading to another touchdown to make the score 28-13 Lions heading into the half.

Calgary’s defence made a play on the Lions first drive of the second-half as Adarius Taylor forced a fumble which was recovered by Silas Stewart at the BC 50-yardline.

The turnover led to another Stampeders field-goal to make the score 28-16.

The Stamps would get three again on their next drive to make the score 28-19 half way through the third-quarter.

The Lions countered with their best drive of the second half as Adams once again used his arm and his legs leading to a field-goal to make the score 31-19 after three-quarters.

BC added to their lead on the next drive as Adams Jr. rushed for his third touchdown of the night to make the score 38-19.

The Lions and Stampeders would trade field-goals half way through the final quarter to make the score 41-22.

The Stamps added a touchdown and two-point convert with 1:11 to go as Maier found Begelton in the endzone to make the score 41-30.

The Stampeders were unable to recover the ensuing onside kick and the Lions move on to the West Final.
