Three Stamps Named 2023 CFL All-Stars

Three Calgary Stampeders players – linebacker Micah Awe, receiver Reggie Begelton and defensive lineman Mike Rose – have been named as members of the Canadian Football League’s all-star team for the 2023 season.

The all-stars were determined by voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC), one vote from each team’s coaching staff.

This is the third consecutive season Rose has been honoured as a league all-star. It’s a second all-star nod for Begelton and a first for Awe.

Here is a closer look at the honourees:

Micah Awe (linebacker): In his first season with the Red and White, Awe set a franchise single-season record by recording 134 defensive tackles, the third-highest total in CFL history. Awe also led the CFL with 153 defensive plays including the aforementioned 134 defensive tackles, four tackles for loss, six special-teams stops, two sacks, three interceptions, one forced fumble and three knockdowns.

Reggie Begelton (receiver): Begelton was the team’s leader in receptions (86), receiving yards (1,119) and receiving touchdowns (five). Despite missing three games in 2023, the veteran slotback ranked second in the CFL in catches and sixth in receiving yards. Begelton had four games with at least 100 receiving yards this season including a 203-yard performance against Toronto. He had a season-high 13 catches in a game against Montreal.

Mike Rose (defensive lineman): Rose led all CFL defensive tackles and set a career high by registering 11 sacks this season. His stat totals also included 24 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Rose had a pair of two-sack games in 2023 – in a game at Saskatchewan on July 16 and at Hamilton on Sept. 30.
