Mitchell-McDaniel milestone

It was fitting that in the first quarter of Saturday’s contest, Marquay McDaniel was on the receiving end of the 100th touchdown pass of Bo Levi Mitchell’s career.

Over the years, McDaniel has been Mitchell’s most popular target on scoring strikes with 14 TD catches. Here is the complete list of the 24 players who have caught Mitchell’s TD passes.

14 – Marquay McDaniel

11 – Eric Rogers

10 – DaVaris Daniels

9 – Anthony Parker

8 – Jeff Fuller

7 – Kamar Jorden

5 – Tory Harrison

4 – Rob Cote, Lemar Durant, Bakari Grant, Maurice Price

3 – Simon Charbonnneau-Campeau, Joe West, Greg Wilson

2 – Jon Cornish, Brad Sinopoli

1 – Jabari Arthur, Greg Carr, Sederrik Cunningham, Corey Mace, Jerome Messam, Marken Michel, Jock Sanders, Tim St. Pierre

Mitchell, by the way, has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 15 consecutive games and in 36 of the past 37 contests.

Streaks stretched

Saturday’s victory allowed the Stamps to stay hot in a number of categories.

For starters, it was the club’s 12th straight regular-season win at McMahon Stadium. It’s the third-longest home winning streak in franchise history, trailing only an amazing 27-gamer from 1992 and 1995 and a 13-gamer from 1947-49.

The Stamps also now have 11 straight wins against West Division opponents.

Against Saskatchewan, the Stamps have won nine in a row overall and are unbeaten (10-0-1) in their 11 most recent regular-season meetings with the Roughriders at McMahon.

Also, by rebounding from the previous week’s loss in Montreal, the Red and White avoided their first back-to-back defeats since Weeks 2 and 3 of the 2012 season. Calgary has now gone 92 games without suffering consecutive losses.

Back with a bang

After missing the two previous games because of injury, Charleston Hughes returned to action on Saturday. As a result, a three-way tie for 13th place on the CFL’s all-time sack list was quickly demolished.

After sitting for two weeks in a tie with Brent Johnson and Brett Williams at 89 sacks, Hughes leaped well ahead for sole possession of 13th place as he brought down former teammate Kevin Glenn on three occasions in the first half of the win over the Roughriders.

Hughes now stands at 92 sacks and he’s now eyeing ex-Ticat Mike Walker, who had 95.5 sacks, for 12th place all-time. Next up is Will Johnson, who also happens to hold the Stampeders franchise record with 99.

Saturday marked the sixth time in Hughes’ career he has recorded three sacks in one game.

Tested against the rested

The Stamps continue to fare well when facing a team coming off a bye week.

The win over Saskatchewan was Calgary’s ninth in a row when facing a rested team since the start of the 2014 season. Since byes were introduced into the CFL schedule in 2002, the Stamps are 19-4 against a rested opponent for a winning percentage of .826. All other teams are 71-96 for a .430 winning percentage over the past 16 seasons when facing a team coming off a bye.

El Matador el magnifico

After a slow start to the season – a miss on a potential game-winning field goal in Week 1 at Ottawa and three missed converts against the RedBlacks in Week 2 – kicker Rene Paredes is back in the groove.

Paredes has been successful on nine consecutive field goals and is now 14-for-16 in that category for the season. Since that disastrous night on coverts against Ottawa, he’s now kicked seven straight extra points.

Paredes has 51 points for the season, trailing only Toronto’s Lirim Hajrullahu (54).
